AI for Tenants: Flagging Illegal Lease Clauses Before You Sign

Tired of seeing family and friends fall into rental traps, Henry built an AI tool (readmylease.ca) to help renters during the offer stage, when landlords often slip in questionable terms on Form 400 or the Ontario Standard Lease. An AI instantly flags illegal clauses and hidden red flags, giving tenants the clarity and confidence they need before signing.

Hear about how he did it, and what this means for renters!

Speaker:

Henry Luan

Henry is a Data Scientist with the Government of Canada, where he uses big data and AI to improve public programs. He's passionate about Civic Tech and had the opportunity to participate in and win Statistics Canada's Public Service Data Challenge in 2023. This is where he developed prototypes that led to the federal government’s first generative AI chatbot in-production (AgPal), designed to help agriculture businesses find government programs and services.

Agenda:

7:00-7:20 Welcome and Introductions

7:20-7:50 Presentation and Q&A/discussion

7:50-9:00 Breakout groups
